Mireya Cendejas dedicated her life to Napa County Office of Education working as an Early Interventionist and Interpreter for the Napa Preschool Program. For 13 years she provided nurturing care and loving support to the children and families throughout the county. Those who knew her feel blessed and honored to have worked alongside her for so long.
Mireya was known by her work family as being supportive, hardworking, and compassionate. She was always the first one to pitch in to help, whether it was cleaning up at a bridal shower, taking projects home, or being available to interpret on a moment’s notice. She held the wisdom of the whole program and could answer any question presented to her. To Mireya, her “work” was her passion, which was evident in her bright smile and dedication to her responsibilities. She was so much more than a “co-worker”; she was a friend, mentor, and mom to many. She is beyond loved and respected for her work ethic, warm smile, genuine heart, and humble personality.
Mireya had a unique gift for connecting with families and students. She was often the interpreter for special educations meetings, assessments, and home visits with families of children with special needs. When Mireya entered a classroom, the children lit up and flocked to hold her hand or ask her to play. They trusted her, laughed with her, and genuinely loved her. She was knowledgeable about the program, services, and resources, but most importantly, she provided wisdom and guidance to help families during vulnerable times. Mireya was the voice of reassurance and helped families embrace the strengths and challenges their children faced. Mireya often expressed that she always wanted to do more for the families she served. Her husband and daughters were aware of her wish and wanted to honor it by setting up a memorial fund in memory of Mireya. Donations will contribute towards a Family Resource Center for the Napa Preschool Program.
Mireya’s spirit has brightened the lives of everyone she has encountered and will continue to be a beautiful, guiding presence in our work with families and children.
